Club Tees Up Exciting Schedule For 2018

Churchill & Blakedown has unveiled a bumper year of golf with a wide and varied programme of events for 2018.   Highlights include Opens, a Ryder Cup contest, hickory competition, club championships, night golf, junior competitions as well as regular medals and Stablefords.

Members will also have the chance to represent the Club against county rivals in Scratch, B team, Seniors, Ladies and Mixed league fixtures.

On the men’s side the usual busy high summer also sees the Habberley Cup on June 30-July 1 while after that attention turns to the Club Scratch Championship which takes place on July 14-15 with the Club Nett Championship a month later on August 18-19.  The battle for the Presidents Putter is also scheduled in August (25-26) while the Churchill Putter against Enville tees off at home on Tuesday, September 11 and away on Thursday, September 20.  The Wally Thorne Trophy against Halesowen with two teams home and away competing simultaneously takes place on Thursday, July 19 with the return on Tuesday, August 7.  The biannual Rabbits and Tigers encounters take place in March and October and the Hens and Chicks tees of on Thursday, March 22.

The Ladies have their normal busy calendar with numerous competitions planned and Ladies Captain’s day is scheduled for Thursday 21 June.

Among the mixed events members will step back in history with the eagerly awaited Hickory Golf Competition which is set for Saturday, April 21.

The busy programme also includes plenty of opportunities for juniors with the Junior 9-hole and 4-hole Open on Saturday, May 12, the Millard Trophy for Juniors on Wednesday, August 22 and the Jasper Cup for Juniors on Wednesday, August 29.

The various Opens include the Seniors Men’s Pairs Open takes place on Friday, June 29 with the Ladies Am-Am Open on May 17 and the Ladies 3-Ball Alliance on Thursday, September 6.

On the social side an interesting and varied programme is being produced and events will be well advertised.

Head PGA professional Angus Hoare said: “The progamme of tournaments and competitions has something for all categories of member.

“It feels these are exciting times for the Club and it is fantastic to see members embracing all the events.”

Angus and Phil will also be contributing to the schedule by hosting the Club Professional Invitation on Bank Holiday, Monday, May 7.

The full list of events will be available in the new revamped official Churchill & Blakedown fixture diary which can be collected from the office, behind the bar or the pro shop in the New Year.   It will also be on the Club website.
